Regular home maintenance work is an absolute must if you’re to keep your property in fine fettle and ensure that problems don’t become insurmountable, or incredibly expensive to sort out. Prioritising the upkeep of your home means you can spot issues before they spiral out of control, allowing you to be more proactive in your approach.
While seemingly inconsequential, your gutters represent a very important part of your house - and when you have a problem with them, it can quickly become a nuisance, as well as potentially causing issues with the rest of the property, leading to damage to your roof and the fabric of the building itself.
Here are just three of the most common problems that you may encounter with your guttering systems over time. If any of these rear their heads, get in touch with the AJB Construction team and we’ll come out to lend a hand!
Blockages
One of the biggest issues you’ll experience with your gutters is blockages - particularly during the autumn.
Leaves, debris, dirt, moss, twigs and so on can easily make their way into the pipes and if you don’t clear them regularly you’ll find that your gutters are less capable of draining rainwater, which can then lead to other problems like sagging or damage.
Poor downpipe positioning
You need to make sure that your downpipe is installed properly above a gully so that the water that collects on your roof can be diverted away from the building and into the drain. If your downpipe is positioned badly, flooding may become a serious problem, particularly during periods of intense rainfall.
Sagging
Sagging gutters is usually down to wear and tear over the years, the weight of standing water or debris, or poor installation. If your brackets and hangers aren’t spaced correctly, it’s also more likely that sagging will happen in the future.
If you have any of these concerns, or simply want to keep on top of gutter maintenance at home, get in touch with us and we’ll be able to lend a helping hand.
